A bit disappointed in the culinary offerings of the Aeolians, Da Pina is a notable exception situated in the main village of Panarea owned by the people behind nearby Oasi boutique hotel. A series of stack-stone buildings with outlying terraces conceal one of the island's more romantic eateries arranged in rod-iron chairs and tabletops of mosaic tiles. Inside, a homey dining room offers diners a rustic beam ceiling and summertime air conditioning with cheerful staff eager to linger over dinner conversation as well as give tips to secret parties that take place by locals throughout the season.
The Food
A kitchen of fresh-caught seafood specialties and local Aeolian dishes is presided over by a family management and chef that’s been a familiar Panaera fixture for decades. Evenings feature a communal table arrangement of Aeolian appetizers ranging from bruschetta and olives to cured fish and flatbreads. For main course is best to stick with grilled seafood dishes like rolled swordfish and fresh Sicilian vegetables with pasta that’s not homemade being the one weak point.
Last Word
Romantic Panarea eatery with summertime terrace and private dining room with occasional weekend fireworks show.
